Marginal Gains for Government Amidst Electoral Shifts

Chris Hipkins already has mutterings in his ranks...If National continues its slide you may be sure mutterings will begin in National’s ranks.

Roy Morgan’s latest New Zealand Poll for July 2024 reveals a slight increase in support for the National-led Government, which includes National, ACT and NZ First. The coalition’s backing rose by 0.5 per cent to 50 per cent, thereby extending its lead over the Labour-Greens-Maori Party opposition, which saw a decline of 1.5 per cent to 44 per cent.

Coalition Dynamics

Within the National-led Government, National itself experienced a drop of 2.5 per cent to 32.5 per cent, marking its lowest support level since the last election. However, this dip was offset by gains from coalition partners: ACT rose by two per cent to 11 per cent, and NZ First saw an increase of one per cent to 6.5 per cent.
