The modern left have made a dark art form out of Orwell’s Newspeak dictum: the purpose is not so much to express meanings as to destroy them.
Shifting and redefining words is an old gambit of the left. Which is hardly surprising: as Orwell also noted, it’s a hallmark of all totalitarian ideologues to stifle meaning in language.
When they’re losing the argument, the left just change the meanings of words and then pretend they’ve been right all along.
It’s beginning to flicker in even the dim consciousness of the modern left that burning, looting, bashing and murdering is not exactly winning hearts and minds in middle America. The great Civil Rights martyr, Martin Luther King Jr, was adamant about non-violence. So, what’s a BLM/Antifa thug to do, when everyone except Anderson Cooper is watching them be so obviously, grotesquely, violent?
Easy! Pretend that “violence” doesn’t mean, well, um…violence…
The New York Times, leftist doyen that it is, has had a long and uncomfortable relationship with the truth. In the 1930s, it declared that there was no starvation in Stalin’s Russia – somehow missing the stink of tens of millions of dead Ukrainians. Now, it’s declaring that there is no violence at BLM riots.
Walter Duranty’s ignominous fame has been passed on to Nikole Hannah-Jones.
Nikole Hannah-Jones[…]said she would not describe “looting as violence; looting is property damage, but it is not violence”.
Ms Hannah-Jones justified the actions of many across the country by saying it allows African-Americas to “take a hold of consumer goods with the ease that a white man does by using his purse”.
“Destroying property, which can be replaced, is not violence,” this semi-literate, lying leftist clown declares.
As they obviously don’t have a copy anywhere in the NYT building, here’s how the standard American language reference defines “violence”: the use of physical force so as to injure, abuse, damage, or destroy.
Even worse, this garbage is being spouted by leftists who’ve gibbered and cried for years that “words are violence”. Again, in direct defiance of the dictionary, which specifies the use of physical force.
Sky News host James Morrow says people being told that words are violence, and police brutality is violence, but “trashing a shop in a minority neighbourhood … and beating up the owner” is not, is a “real disgrace”[…]
Mr Morrow told Sky News host Paul Murray there is nothing “more racist than saying the only way a black person can get consumer goods is to go and loot and steal them”.
“That’s about the most offensive thing I have ever heard”.
Mr Morrow said this type of “bigotry” creates “low low expectations” for African American.
Well, we all know by now that the Democrats really have never let go of their slave-owning mindset. Long after the Republican party forced them to strike off black Americans’ chains, Democrats still think they own them.
“You ain’t black” if you don’t vote for them shows just how low Democrats’ expectations of black Americans really are.
