The company behind Uncle Ben’s rice could be dropping their logo and changing their name following Pepsi Co’s move to scrap Aunt Jemima branding.

The orange Uncle Ben’s rice packet features a picture of an African-American farmer as its logo, which has been around for 70 years according to the company’s website.

Proposed changes come in the wake of a global shift to stamp out systemic racism, following the death of George Floyd at the hands of four Minneapolis police officers.

A spokesperson for Mars Inc, the food giant which produces Uncle Ben’s, has released a statement saying they are “evaluating all possibilities”, Reuters reports.

The company also posted on Twitter saying “We have a responsibility to help end racial injustices. We’re listening to consumers, especially in the Black community, and our Associates.”

Mars gave no details of when changes could be implemented, “We don’t yet know what the exact changes or timing will be, but we will evolve Uncle Ben’s visual brand identity.”
