MAN OF THE PEOPLE

A recent political poll has revealed a huge surge in support for Warriors playmaker Shaun Johnson, who is now among some of the top people as preferred Prime Minister of New Zealand.

The 33-year-old who is in the middle of one of the Warriors best ever NRL campaigns has popped up in the rankings, leaving both Christopher Luxon and Chris Hipkins scratching their heads.

Johnson, while a good sidestepper, likely wouldn’t be the type of person who would sidestep questions about the economy. In fact, the likely Dally M medal winner for the best player in the NRL, is likely just doing what many politicians don’t, and that’s resonate with everyday New Zealanders.

Our reporters spoke to a number of Kiwis who explained their support for Johnson and why he should be New Zealand’s next PM.

“Just the way he talks. He doesn’t sound like an overly media-trained robot. Just sounds like a normal guy,” said Sarah Glasson, 26 of Auckland.

Her sentiment reflects the growing belief that Johnson’s authenticity and approachability set him apart from the polished personas of traditional politicians.

34-year-old Wellingtonian Jakob Elley echoed Sarah’s comments.

‘Shaun Johnson seems to be doing something that many seasoned politicians struggle with and that’s just genuinely resonating with everyday New Zealanders. No wonder he’s making what looks like a top-four finish as preferred PM”
