Reality Check: Dems Don’t Give a Hoot about Kids at the Border

Two female detainees sleep in a holding cell, as the children are separated by age group and gender, as hundreds of mostly Central American immigrant children are being processed and held at the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Nogales Placement Center in Nogales, Arizona, June 18, 2014. They played the violin for immigrant children when Donald Trump was president. They were the party of compassion. They cared about families. We heard it ad nauseam that mean man Trump didn’t just put kids in cages, he threw away the key. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) tweeted about it incessantly. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) jabbed her index finger at the cameras, outraged at the inhumane treatment of minors. It was unconscionable, immoral, unholy, and downright unamerican. Suburban moms across the country were haunted by the thought of thirsty youngsters in cages being forced to drink toilet water. The Democrats painted quite a tableau, didn’t they?

Fast forward a few short months, and the many signals candidate Biden sent to the huddled masses down south – surprise! – caused a wave of immigrants to trek to the U.S.- Mexican border in numbers unseen in the last two decades. These people took Mr. Biden at his word.

Uh-oh.

The statistics that have slipped out – despite a presidential gag order – are quite staggering. Forget the 20-year high – how about the 500 unaccompanied children a day? The president of the National Border Patrol Council finally coughed up the truth: “A week ago I would not have called this a crisis. Today it meets the definition. We are overwhelmed. We do not have the resources to stop the cartels from bringing in illegal aliens, from bringing in drugs, therefore we are in fact in a crisis,” Brandon Judd told FOX News. Finally, Biden Press Secretary Jan Psaki slipped and used the “c” word, as well.

Thank you for stating the obvious, Ms. Psaki. Now that we have established a baseline reality, where are all these wonderful facilities that Democrats have constructed for kids? During a recent White House press briefing, one reporter had the same query: “Why are we still not seeing any images inside these facilities?” Psaki’s hollow answer was laughable – something about respecting privacy.

Really? Is that the best you can do?

AOC’s Twitter account is strangely silent. Her compatriot, Ms. Pelosi, continues her tirade, but that index finger is oddly still pointed toward Donald Trump. Someone needs to remind the Democrats that the blame-game can only last so long. No one seems to want to tell the American people what is happening down on the border – especially concerning children.

So, we will tell you.

A Biden administration official has confessed that there are more than 14,000 migrant children now in some form of U.S. custody. This is the widely reported news.

However, some not-so-widely heard information comes from Voice of America: “The number of unaccompanied teens and children taken into U.S. custody along the U.S.-Mexico border surged in recent weeks to nearly 30,000 in February.”

This broad confusion is likely the result of an administration that is not forthcoming with information regarding this spiraling situation. What is apparent is that these numbers have risen rapidly: In late February, Axios reported that 700 kids were in border patrol custody. The Hill said on March 18 that almost 10,000 migrant children were being held by the Department of Health and Human Services (DHS) and another 4,500 by Customs and Border Patrol. Meanwhile, CBS News claims that 3,000 of these kids have been kept in facilities past their expiration date – which was supposed to be no more than three days. It should be noted that the news sources cited above are not exactly enemies of the new administration.

An unnamed administration official recently admitted to FOX, “I don’t see how we keep this many kids when we can’t find sponsors.” Ya think? About the only thing that is clear is that Democrats have demonstrated they do not care one whit about unaccompanied migrant children coming to America. It was all political posturing and bluster. They played on America’s heartstrings, and some probably took this phony Democrat compassion to the ballot box. One can only hope that Americans will listen to the sage words of the rock band The Who and “Won’t Get Fooled Again.”

Until then, the U.S. has a mighty big problem on its hands. The recent 180-degree turn by President Biden telling migrants to “stay home” is not likely to dissuade the masses. Such as it is, this migrant mess involving tens of thousands of children is now in the hands of the president and his benevolent party.
