You vill take the vaccine! (*Not an actual quote)

As I write this Chris Hipkins is being confirmed as Prime Minister of New Zealand. The left-wing media are desperately trying to push the reset button with all sorts of twaddle about him being some kind of mad right winger in an attempt to pretend the numerous crises facing New Zealand aren’t actually occurring – “so stop believing those lyin’ eyes of yours, peasant!”

It is almost as amusing to watch as the people whose parents spewed all sorts of personal abuse at Rob Muldoon for years, and who themselves did the same to Jenny Shipley and John Key are now crying crocodile tears about the meanies who dared to criticise Jacinda Ardern. “The racists and misogynists among us” – i.e. you, dear reader – need to be ashamed of yourselves.

As The Who said in the song We Won’t Get Fooled Again (pfft! yeah, right! – if that were true the Holland Government would still be in office), “Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.” A Prime Minister who is a left-wing ideologue, never had a job outside of politics, and is about to jump into a quagmire.

Inflation is still high, interest rates will soar next month (ending whatever honeymoon may exist), nobody can get any staff, few people can make ends meet, the Maori apartheid stuff still prevails over the 84% majority, and house prices have a lot further to fall.

In short folks, nothing has changed and the election is still going to be a disaster for the socialists. For instance, a little bird tells me that in the Taieri electorate, where I live, Labour has done three polls; each putting Ingrid Leary MP at 30%; and consequently they have written everything off south of Fairfield (including Mosgiel where she’s polling in the 20s). They are now trying to contain the damage in the rest of the electorate to a swing of ‘only’ 10% against them!

As things stand Labour is down to winning the six Maori seats it currently holds, along with New Lynn, Kelston, Mt Roskill, Mt Albert, Mangere, Manurewa, Panmure-Otahuhu, Palmy North, Mana, Remutaka, Wellington Central, Rongotai, Christchurch East, Wigram, and Dunedin; a mere 21 electorate seats. Add to that Christchurch Central, Banks Peninsula, Te Atatu, and Takanini as “possibles” for no more than 25.

Competition for the 15 list MP slots is going to be nasty in a way only Labour does naaaaaasty. Add to that Epsom for ACT, Auckland Central in the ‘undecided’ column between Swarbrick and National, and you have National winning around 44 electorate seats. This is where certain National MPs need to wake up and get with the programme. If National gets around 40% of the vote and around 50 seats; it means there are not too many list MP slots available. The party is looking for candidates in Ohariu, Maungakiekie, and Taieri (ahem) – rather than, say, Wellington Central, Epsom, and Dunedin (if you know what I mean?).
