Nicky Hager’s latest book is called Dirty Work. He’d know all about that, wouldn’t he? If you fancy yourself as something of a writer, it is best to pick a subject to write on that you are expert in and helps if you’re writing about something that’s dear to your heart. When I first became aware of the book’s title, my immediate thought was it must be an autobiography. Sadly, that is not the case: it is simply another work of fiction. If you like fiction you might be tempted to read it because, to give Hager his due, he excels as a writer of fiction.
If the picture in the Herald of the hordes in the Unity Bookshop waiting to purchase the novel is anything to go by, then fiction books must have a large readership here. Mind you the people in the photo, like Hager, didn’t look particularly bright – and fiction is probably the extent to which they can handle literature. Give them one of the classics and it would be right over their heads. One wonders at the intelligence, or lack thereof, of people who are so easily taken in and obviously have trouble separating fact from fiction. But there they were, all lining up to waste their money.
Of course these people all emanate from left habitats, which means, politically speaking, they have not had the best start in life. They will believe in climate change to the point where they feel lucky they are still alive to be able to buy ‘Nicky in Wonderland’. The 1865 fantasy novel by Lewis Carroll, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, is a much better read: it is still immensely popular and has been translated into over 170 languages. By contrast, I predict Hager’s piece of trash will soon be in the $2 book bargain bin.
Most people who possess a modicum of intellectual integrity, will dismiss this book for what it is. They will have a more positive way in which to part with $35. The economy, must be going great guns if those that attended Unity have a spare $35 to spend on buying nonsense like this. Within a day of its release, the Taxpayers’ Union have provided ample evidence to dismiss Hager’s hallucinations. His claims are being discredited and pulled apart one by one.
It’s astonishing isn’t it? You spend goodness knows how long writing a book and within hours you have become a national embarrassment because everything you have written has been forensically ridiculed. Those who purchased the drivel are not the sharpest knives in the drawer, so they probably still believe they have bought a blockbuster. It is a sad commentary on society to realise that there are so many gullible people around who will fall for this type of scurrilous journalism.
Hager describes himself as an investigative journalist. Someone needs to tell him that the first obligation of an investigative journalist is to get the facts right. To produce a piece of work designed to discredit persons or an organisation because you don’t agree with the work they are undertaking and the resultant successes they are having is nothing to be proud of. The book doesn’t stand up to scrutiny: it is merely a shameful and disgraceful attempt to bring down a reputable organisation.
The Taxpayers’ Union is perhaps the most effective organisation we have at holding politicians and governments to account. Unlike biased Mr Hager, they hold ALL to account, left and right. They deserve wholehearted support and, if you do have $35 to spare, giving it to the Taxpayers’ Union is a far better bet than buying a totally discredited book. Both David Farrar and Jordan Williams, who run the organisation, are people of the highest calibre and integrity. They and their staff work long hours and unstintingly to ensure that governments are spending taxpayers’ money in the most responsible manner.
The Taxpayers’ Union is ensuring the fruits of your labour, the money you hand over to the government, is well spent. The fact Hager has felt the need to write such a load of garbage speaks volumes as to the effectiveness of the Taxpayers’ Union and the many successes it has had. They act without fear or favour and solely in the interest of the taxpayer. To be demonised by some amateur claiming to be an investigative journalist, is beyond disgusting.
The old saying is ‘never judge a book by its cover’ but I think in the case of Hager we definitely can. He has the woke weasel look about him. A small, wispy, insignificant creature weighed down by a huge chip on his shoulder. He, of course, thinks his book is going to derail both the Taxpayers’ Union and the election. I hate to disappoint the frail looking personage but that is most unlikely to happen. Hager is a fake who lacks even a modicum of integrity. Dirty Work is the product of that.
The Taxpayers’ Union was initiated with certain goals in mind and the efforts of those involved in achieving them has never wavered. They are clear eyed and totally focused on the outcomes they are wanting on behalf of you and me, the taxpayers. They have supporters in the thousands and they rely on donations to exist.
I wish the Taxpayers’ Union well, especially for the work they will be doing between now and the election. Their efforts and discoveries will have a far greater influence on how we vote compared to Hager’s absurdities. To David and Jordan I say, don’t take your eye off the ball, which I am pretty sure you won’t. It is very regrettable that you have had to cope with this bucket of scripted effluent that has been dumped upon you. Personally, I would be weighing up my legal options. Stay strong and keep up your excellent work on our behalf.
Oh, by the way Nicky, thanks ever so much for your help. You more than anyone (bar the Taxpayers’ Union), no doubt ignorantly, have ensured the electoral tide is now flowing in the ‘right’ direction. Well done brother!
