Imagine that, after three years of WWII, it was revealed that nearly the entire media industry in Allied countries had been relying almost entirely on Joseph Goebbels’ Ministry of Propaganda as its source. Worse, they’d later published weepy condolences when Herr Goebbels murder-suicided his family and himself in the Berlin bunker. If the editors and journalists weren’t lynched, they’d certainly have been jailed.
In 2026, though, the same journalistic quislings get to parade themselves as moral paragons, while quietly scrubbing their grotesque sins from the public record.
The Australian Broadcasting Corporation, that gilded harbourside temple of taxpayer-funded Marxist propaganda, is currently engaged in a frantic bout of digital housekeeping. Having spent months weeping into their lattes over the ‘martyred’ voices of Gaza, they have discovered, to their performative shock, that their correspondents were, in fact, rather active members of the Hamas death cult.
The IDF has published a database of 170 Gazans presented to the world as journalists and media workers who it says served in the military wings of Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad and other terror groups. 118 of them are confirmed Hamas terrorists. Another 50 are with Islamic Jihad. 17 took part in the October 7 massacre. Some held command roles.
One such ‘colleague’ was Roshdi Sarraj. When he met his end, the ABC’s 7.30 programme, led by the gravitas-laden Sarah Ferguson, offered heartfelt condolences for his ‘passing’. He was described as an ‘amazing professional’. It turns out he was an operative in the military wing of a group that makes a hobby of kidnapping innocents. One imagines his ‘professional’ duties likely involved more than just holding a camera steady, and the IDF’s files suggest his press card was little more than a tactical disguise.
The response from Ultimo has been the classic bureaucratic shuffle. Rather than launching a genuine investigation into how their editorial standards were hijacked by jihadists, they have begun a timid, surgical removal of names from their website, deferring all accountability to the Committee to Protect Journalists.
The ABC has quietly begun scrubbing its Gaza “journalists killed” coverage as evidence mounts that many of those named were in fact operatives of Hamas and other terrorist groups in the strip. In a statement provided to Rebel News, and in an editor’s note dated October 2 now visible on some articles on the public broadcaster’s website, the ABC says 22 names have so far been removed. It is deferring the decision to a list maintained by the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ).
This is the pathetic resort of a mid-tier public relations firm, not a serious news organisation. Deferring to the CPJ, an outfit with a record of sympathy, is merely passing the buck to the very people who provided the initial, tainted information.
Meanwhile, the rot is systemic. We have seen the New York Times publish drivel from a ‘doctor’ who is, in reality, a Hamas colonel. The ABC’s own editorial director, Gavin Fang, previously offered a limp apology for peddling the ‘starving babies’ lie: a mistake, he claimed. A mistake? No, it was the predictable output of a machine that considers truth a secondary concern to the requirements of the prevailing narrative.
Australia/Israel Jewish Affairs Council executive director Colin Rubenstein told the Australian he was disappointed but not surprised by the report Sarraj was a terrorist.
“The revelation that the ABC employed and then eulogised a ‘journalist’ in Gaza, who … moonlighted as a terrorist is just one more piece of evidence as to how far ABC coverage of the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza departed from the standards of impartiality and professionalism,” he said.
These were not innocent civilians caught in the crossfire: they were propagandists for the slime of humanity and legitimate military targets. Yet the ABC would have us believe that the slaughter of 1,200 people on October 7 was merely a backdrop to the ‘tragic’ loss of their preferred informants.
The Antisemitism Royal Commission is currently chewing over the broadcaster’s role in our domestic social decline. What would they might find if they look deeper into the payroll? The fact remains that Australians are footing the bill for a propaganda apparatus that, when cornered, performs the equivalent of changing the font on a death warrant.
The ABC has failed every test of integrity. They have been fed by terrorists, amplified by terrorists and mourned by terrorists. It is past time for the sermons to cease and for the funding to follow.
Defund the lot of them and let them find a job that better suits their talents: perhaps in the public relations office of the groups they so diligently promoted.
