With National, ACT and NZ First locked in coalition negotiations, various urgent and climate-related transport challenges hang in the balance.

Lost me on the very first sentence, there are no urgent climate-related transport challenges. Basically, this is just a rant by an academic demanding that everybody else should stop driving their cars.

If anything is truly for the public good, then it doesn’t ever need to be forced on people by subsidising them if they do, and punishing them if they don’t. That is totalitarianism. If something is good for people, then they will use it of their own free will. Let people decide what they want to drive.
