I was saddened to see the video here recently of the young guys mining toxic Cobalt by hand in the Congo. I thought briefly if Black Lives really Mattered…and the Greens cared more about People than the Planet and the Chinese Mine owners and their Government respected UN conventions, then these revelations would be a show stopper to this clearly unsustainable and exploitative EV battery industry.
But then I remembered no one stopped buying Apple products when it was revealed they were built by virtual slave labour and they had nets around the factory to catch the workers who tried to kill themselves by jumping from their buildings, so bleak was their existence.
While Politicians talk ever more about Community and Society and Team of 5 Million we actually care less and less about Individual suffering…child miners, people freezing in Europe, the Vax injured, arming the Taliban, conscripts dying in Ukraine, Hijab Protesters in Iran…who cares, the Planets overpopulated anyway right?
So nothing will change – we’ve all become hardened.
As have I – I wish we’d send those soft privileged kids from “Just End Oil and Extinction Rebellion” to the Cobalt mines. Maybe James Shaw could fly them there with his Airpoints.
