And that sums up all that has changed and what is wrong with this country. Not something an election will fix. Three generations ago and earlier, the majority of the population thought about what they could do for their country. Many gave their lives by going to war. They worked hard, paid taxes etc. Made do with what they had for a while as it meant doing better later. Built things.
That has entirely flipped and the majority ask what the country can do for them. What handouts can they get? What are they owed just by being born here or because they emigrated here? What big house can I be given and keep for life?
I believe in giving hand-ups but welfare has definitely added to the change in attitude along with a lot of poor parenting (giving kids what they want now and no learning to wait or save means they grow up with the same expectations as adults) and change in society values and attitudes.
