We lost so many decent teachers that day – teachers with integrity that put critical thinking ahead of propaganda: the exact teachers, with backbones, that we need teaching our children in the present day. It was utterly despicable the way these teachers were dismissed. There was no formal farewell from schools, boards or other teachers – no acknowledgement at all. They just walked off the property at the close of the school day, never to go back. It was very upsetting to watch.

I live in a small rural town and we lost 12 employees across two schools, both teachers and support staff. A reasonably sized group of us went to the high school to stand outside on the footpath to acknowledge, console, support and applaud the teachers we knew were being dismissed. My teenager wasn’t at school that day and I took him with me to show him
the importance of integrity and having strength in the courage of your
convictions. The school, of course, ignored us and the teachers who were choosing to remain used a different exit to avoid us. We must never forget.
