The political left, globally, is sorely in need of some resuscitation, maybe not CPR but definitely something close to it. Political resuscitation encompasses a range of actions aimed at reversing psychological derangements and supporting vital functions. Those on the political left, it would appear, by their increasingly bizarre and erratic behaviour, need urgent help in this regard.
The syndrome known as Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is another condition from which the left appears to suffer. This involves harbouring intrusive, unwanted thoughts or urges. Before getting to the headline, it is worth noting where politicians on the left have landed today on the political spectrum. The following provides some substance to defining how far they have strayed from their original ideals.
First, if you are considering issues that are likely to affect the country and your party you will be very careful as to which way you jump. If you decide to take a position that is contrary to the majority of voters then your chances of attaining power are considerably lessened. Forcing the majority of the electorate to accept your tyrannical point of view is probably committing political suicide.
There is no better example of this than the behaviour and irrational thinking of the Democratic Party in America. They are completely at odds with the majority of people because they have decided to support issues that most people reject. Their support of DEI, transgender policies, curtailing free speech, anti-Semitism and their illogical obsession with climate change and clean energy, etc., has turned the majority of voters against them.
Their cause has not been helped, although they would disagree, by their friends in the left-wing media, who misguidedly think they are supporting them when in reality they’re assisting their demise (along with their own). The same applies in this country. Are they aware of the predicament they have put themselves in? If they are, they are not showing it.
We hear a lot in the media about the ‘far-right’, but in America it is the far-left that is exerting influence on the Democratic Party, pushing its hopes of getting into power even further away. The moderates in the party either see themselves as powerless or are not of a mind to stop this dangerous encroachment on their voter base. People in the blue states are signing up to the Republican Party in ever increasing numbers.
As the terrorist groups in the Middle East exist for the purpose of destroying Israel, so the radical left exists to destroy capitalism. Everything will be free: you will own nothing and you will be happy. The government will look after your every need. It will be paid for by taxing the very last pint of blood, in the form of money, out of the wealthy. Leftists will go after these who have made a success of their lives. What happens when they’re reduced to poverty as well is an unanswered question.
This is more of their ideology at play: the redistribution of wealth. It is a concept that is abhorrent to most people and the exact opposite of Make America Great Again. It reduces everyone down to the same level. It completely ignores and prevents a basic tenet of human nature – that is the aspiration to make a success of one’s life. It is dehumanising and devoid of all commonsense. It never works in practice.
Another example of OCD is leftist politicians’ obsession with Trump. Their inability to see Trump as just a political opponent has long gone. These people have, as they amply demonstrated prior to the last presidential election, an extremely unhealthy attitude towards him and it has reached the point of becoming unhinged. Trump Derangement Syndrome is yet another thing not helping their cause.
They were determined to get this man at any cost. Smear him, jail him or attempt to illegally remove his name from the ballot – anything that would stop him being the Republican nominee. In their attempt to do so they corrupted various levels of government and the judiciary. God knows where America would be now but for the majority of conservatives sitting on the bench of the Supreme Court.
The political left are all about power. Their idea of democracy means they are in urgent need of a dictionary. In Europe, the EEC, laughingly described at the outset as purely a trading organisation, was, in truth, all about political power. Its intention was to create the EU where the political mechanism was rule by diktat. It is effectively run by Germany, France and the wealthy people who make up the European Commission. The UK did the right thing by extracting itself from these megalomaniacs.
As of today Macron is doing his best to ensure Marine Le Pen doesn’t get to run in the next election (shades of Trump) and in Germany the socialist SPD party is making a move to try and ensure the more popular right-wing AFD party is banned and cannot take part in future elections. These examples of unbridled use of power are an anathema to most people, so, once again, they are shooting themselves in the foot.
This all illustrates how far the left has strayed from the original principles on which it was founded. These were to look after the more unfortunate, vulnerable and poorer folk in society. Those on the left represented the workers. They were led by men of principle and of strong belief in what they set out to do. History shows they were successful in their endeavours, particularly in the areas of housing, education and welfare. The Labour Party here was a good example. But not anymore.
If it is to have a future, the left must return to its roots. It must return to the founding beliefs that brought it to power and gave people a fundamental reason to vote for it. Ideas must be brought forward that will appeal to its original voter base but be relevant to today’s world. Its people, as evidenced both in the United States and the United Kingdom, are deserting it in droves. They do not identify with the current trajectories the Democrats and Labour are on.
Personally, I can’t see this happening while the radical left is given the opportunity to take control. This is the equivalent of the lunatics running the asylum and the foxes being allowed to inhabit the henhouse. In turn, this paints a bleak picture for left-wing politics globally. This is to the detriment of politics in general, as every government needs an effective opposition but I don’t see this happening in the foreseeable future without a change in direction.
