The wheel of political karma grinds ever so slowly, but it grinds exceedingly brutal, and those who live by the lawfare sword sooner or later die on it. These are the essential lessons the Democrats forgot, fewer less arrogantly so than Barack Obama. With characteristic overweening conceit, Obama thought the Democrats would never lose office and he could remain president-for-life behind the scenes.
To that end, he, as we now know, engineered the ‘Russian Collusion’ lie, both to stymie Donald Trump’s first run at the presidency, then to overthrow his first-term administration. As Tulsi Gabbard, the former Democrat now Trump’s Director of National Intelligence, has laid bare, this is not just a ‘conspiracy theory’, it’s cold, hard, fact.
For it turned out that, after Trump’s victory in 2016, Barack Obama, in the waning weeks of his presidency, was not only involved in the conspiracy to upend the peaceful transfer of power and destroy Trump, he was something like the prime mover.
What remains to be seen now is whether the Trump administration will pursue justice to its logical conclusion.
The prosecutions will depend on the DOJ. Since it is now led by the stalwart Pam Bondi, Trump’s Attorney General, I believe that there is a good chance we will see some notable prosecutions.
You could say that this is ‘revenge posing as justice’, and, sure, there’s no small measure of revenge. But there’s also justice: as a result of Obama and the Democrats’ grotesque machinations, many innocent people have had their reputations trashed. Innocent men were sent to prison. This must be punished.
And, thanks to their own unhinged actions, there is no longer anything to prevent a former president being arrested on criminal charges. The Democrats willfully crossed that Rubicon, now they have to face the eternal fact of history: anything you do to your enemies, your enemies will one day do to you.
But will Obama get his just desserts and be fitted out for an orange jumpsuit? Don’t hold your breath.
As a friend reminded me, “The jury pool in DC will never convict a Dem of jaywalking, let alone treason.” This is probably true, and it got me thinking about James Boasberg, Chief Judge of the United States District Court for the District of Columbia. Boasberg has been in the public eye lately for his chest-thumping efforts to interpose himself between the Constitution and Donald Trump […]
Then I remembered that Boasberg has been a left-wing activist for years and, in fact, had played an important if largely undiscussed role in the beginning chapters of the Russia Collusion Delusion.
Mostly in protecting the guilty-as-sin.
Remember Kevin Clinesmith? He was the FBI lawyer who, in 2017, helped get the Russia Collusion Delusion going by altering a CIA email regarding Carter Page, one of the many pro-Trump figures who was harassed by the DOJ. (How do you spell “tampering with evidence”?)
The CIA, I wrote at the time:
“had identified Page as a CIA source. Clinesmith, part of the anti-Trump team that staffs the upper reaches of the FBI, changed the email to say that [Carter Page] was not a CIA asset. This gave the green light for the bureau to obtain a warrant from the FISA Court to spy on Page and, through him, on the entire Trump administration.”
So what happened to Clinesmith? In 2020, he pleaded guilty to doctoring the email and was sentenced to – are you ready? – 12 months probation. And who was the judge that delivered that tiny rap on the knuckles? Why, James Boasberg, of course.
Clinesmith committed a felony by altering an official document to obtain a fraudulent warrant to spy on an American citizen. A lawyer who is convicted of a felony would normally be disbarred. Thanks to Boasberg, Clinesmith, the felonious lawyer, merely got a probation.
Compare that leniency to the harsh punishments meted out to Trump allies, including those engaged on that famous self-guided tour of the Capitol on January 6, 2021.
So, the question becomes, will Trump 2.0 be able to drain the swamp sufficiently to ensure that those who really were engaged in a seditious conspiracy against the lawfully elected president of the United States are held to account? Don’t hold your breath: the swamp is nothing if not deep in mud.
