Here is what the Minister of Police said when referring to a recent banning of public display of patches by gang members:

“Gang insignia is intended to intimidate the public and other gangs. It is designed to claim ownership of a physical space and to encourage the recruitment of gang prospects. We will not allow the Mongols MC to advertise its presence in this way.”


And then, this is what confronted some of the motorists at iwi checkpoints, as endorsed and supported by both that same police minister and the commissioner of police:
