The beauty of an early morning historical post is that the date can mean the event happened today “our time” or today “other side of the world” time.

1938: The Minister of Railways, Dan Sullivan, and Wellington Mayor,
Thomas Hislop officially opened the electrified railway line between
Central Wellington and Johnsonville
1937: Amelia Earhart and navigator Frederick Noonan, are reported
missing near Howland Island in the Pacific. They were attempting to
fly around the world when apparently they got lost flying from New
Guinea to Howland Island, 2227 miles away. No trace of them or the
Lockheed aircraft was ever found.
1980: President Jimmy Carter reinstates draft registration for males
aged over 18 .
1961: Ernest Hemingway commits suicide at his home in Ketchum, Idaho.
He was 61. He published 7 novels, 6 short story collections and 2
non-fiction works in his lifetime. Several other works were
posthumously published. He also won a Nobel Prize for Literature in
1954. – On a personal note, some of my best reading has been Hemingway.
