Amy Brooke
Amy wants to restore democracy in New Zealand so that we make the decisions concerning our directions.
If Christopher Luxon really called people racist for criticising the removal of exotic trees from Mount Maunganui to replace them with native trees, then he well deserves to be criticised for such a stupid comment.
All over New Zealand, the egoism of those with a smattering of Māori genetic inheritance (there are, of course, now only part-Māori in this country) has been the on-going push to prioritise iwi interests and self-importance at the expense of everything and everybody else.
And so, important exotic trees with an extensive root systems that long held river banks and slopes in place have been cut down.
We all know that when a tree on a slope is cut down, its root die and shrivel. And when this happens water begins to make its way downhill through the slim channels left by the dried-up roots. We have seen willow trees removed from the sides of rivers an then the banks eventually crumbling and falling in. Replacement by native trees does not prevent this…and the willow root is superior in holding banks in wet conditions.
So, too, with the hill at Mount Maunganui. Those pointing out that removing the non-native trees from the hill in order to replace them with politically correct natives would undoubtedly have contributed to the eventual landslide were quite correct. Luxon’s criticism is not only ignorant, it is stupid to target it as racist: a word thrown around far too much, as he should know.
It makes one wonder why on earth the National Party don’t have enough sense to replace their liability of a leader, who is already costing them votes.
