What Did a High Court Judge Say about Trevor Mallard?

Trevor Mallard

There are many words that one could use to describe Trevor Mallard. Many of them are unsavoury, none are pleasant. But a High Court Judge took the time to find three words that accurately sum up his behaviour towards Winston Peters and other former MPs who visited the Parliament protest.

The High Court has declared Parliament’s Speaker was unreasonable, irrational, and unjustified in his decision to trespass NZ First leader Winston Peters.

The former speaker Trevor Mallard issued the warnings – which prohibited entry to parliament grounds for two years – after protesters continued to occupy parliament’s grounds in February and March after being told to leave. Peters visited the protesters.

In a consent judgment, Justice Gwyn declared the Speaker’s exercise of power was unreasonable and irrational and that the trespass was an unjustified limitation on Peters’ right to freedom of movement under the Bill of Rights.

Unreasonable, irrational, and unjustified; three words used to describe someone who is now the nation’s diplomatic representative to Ireland.

Winston Peters goes much further, asking why the Prime Minister is  “showing utter contempt for the people of New Zealand and Ireland promoting Mallard as a representative and ambassador with his proven unreasonable, irrational, and unjustified behaviour?”

One wonders just how long Trevor Mallard will last as Ambassador to Ireland should Winston Peters form part of a new government. I suspect the first action of the new government will be to recall and sack Mallard from his sinecure position.

But Winston Peters is correct: Jacinda Ardern is showing utter contempt for the people of New Zealand. The sooner she is gone the better.

Meanwhile, Trevor Mallard has also decided to keep on bullying Gaurav Sharma, after Sharma released audio of Mallard threatening him.

Mallard just still can’t let it all go, even when he has gone.  He just has to dig himself into a deeper and deeper hole.

Asked for clarification concerning his “career-limiting” comment, Mallard said he meant to indicate to Sharma that his claims were “very serious” and if inaccurate, would be “career-limiting on someone, whatever happened”.

Mallard also claimed the recording would prove what Sharma said in the House on the day of Speaker Adrian Rurawhe’s confirmation in the role was untrue and a breach of privilege.

Sharma said he would happily provide the full audio to an independent investigator along with any other evidence he held.

“If they had carried out an independent investigation as I have repeatedly requested into the bullying I have been subjected to by the Labour whips, I wouldn’t have to put this stuff on social media.”

He’s like that stubborn stain, that just won’t wash away.

That turd that just won’t flush, and just bobs up and says, “Hello, I’m still here.”

Just remember what the High Court Judge said: “unreasonable”, “irrational”, and “unjustified”, the three words used to describe someone who sadly is now the nation’s diplomatic representative to Ireland.
