What Do the Letters TVNZ Stand For

Most don’t watch One News for these reasons. It brings to mind the Herman’s Hermits hit from 1966 – “A Must to Avoid”.

If you were asked this question, the obvious answer would be Television New Zealand. But to me, they stand for an entirely different set of words. I would describe the people they employ as journalists as Terrible Venomous Narcissistic Zealots. Looking at each word individually, the definitions are very appropriate for the types TVNZ choose to work on their news platforms. They seem, like most mainstream media, to want people who have a left bent.

Look at each of the words.

Terrible – something extremely unpleasant or of very low quality
Venomous – full of anger or hate
Narcissistic – Someone with an exaggerated sense of self-importance, achievements and talent
Zealot – a person who is fanatically or excessively devoted to a cause.

Journalism these days appears to have become something more akin to a religion, particularly when it comes to the realm of politics. The ideology, chapter and verse, they like to support is their bible. They have no problem putting their dislike of right-wing politics on show. To the disparagement of their profession, they make no attempt to hide it. Their bias, which they deny exists, is continually evident. Maybe they can’t see it but those on the right are only too well aware of it.

Their poster girl, at least in recent times, is Maiki Sherman. This is the woman who has enormous difficulty hiding her unbridled joy when the poll her company has commissioned produces a result in the left’s favour. Verbal diarrhoea is most evident in the voluminous flow of words.

Only recently we learned that a derogatory term slipped from the same reporter against another journalist whom she once worked with. The old saying ‘Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned’ could apply here, but, no, the gentleman to whom it was directed is gay. It might apply to her next misdemeanour, though. It is reported she chased National MP Stuart Smith to his office and spent several minutes banging on his door demanding an interview. Further evidence has come to light that if an interview was not forthcoming he would not get a favourable view passed on the following morning’s cornflake programme. The MP, probably realising how few watch the show, decided to keep the door closed.

The defence put forward by the increasingly discredited outfit she works for was she was chasing a legitimate story on behalf of the public. When Newstalk ZB learnt of the foul language incident (which happened a year ago) and attempted to follow it up, they received a threatening letter from TVNZ’s lawyers. This behaviour smacks of straight out blatant hypocrisy. When the boot is on the other foot, evidently the same rules don’t apply.

As mentioned in a previous post, toxic Tova is not far behind. The descriptive TVNZ words apply to her too; she is another one bringing the profession in to disrepute. Her childish behaviour when interviewing the prime minister was an affront to anyone with even a modicum of intelligence.

You have to ask what training these modern-day news hounds have had. Pretty poor if their daily actions are anything to go by. Those in the parliamentary press gallery look like they’ve barely got out of bed: a dishevelled lot and their questions suggest mouths are operating prior to the brain being fully engaged. They are an illustration of how poorly served this country is when it comes to employing people with the journalistic skills of which the profession used to be so proud. Those days seem to be gone.

TVNZ might be proud of the news it produces but the reality is it is not of a very high quality. That cannot be achieved in an hour’s presentation of left-wing bias speckled with other domestic items more suited to a local news format. Most of us don’t watch One News precisely for these reasons. It brings to mind the Herman’s Hermits hit from 1966 – “A Must to Avoid”.
