The World Health Organization (WHO) are hosting the 76th World Health Assembly in Geneva from 21 to 30 May 2023, during which time they are also celebrating their 75th anniversary. Three main issues are on the agenda this year, all of which relate to an attempt to consolidate global power into the hands of a few, at the great expense of the many.

As we have previously described, emergency declarations have been used by governments throughout history to centralise power and repress human rights. The Covid response alerted many of us to the fact that the same strategy is being repeatedly rehearsed today using pandemics as the excuse, with alternative options including climate change and terrorism.

Today’s situation is unique, occurring on a global scale and involving a convergence of interests between national governments, corporations, non-governmental organisations and private individuals. These merging interests represent a modern day form of fascism, known as “corporatism”. As an example, on 11 March 2020, the very day that Tedros Ghebreyesus, Director-General of WHO, announced Covid as a pandemic, the World Economic Forum – a conglomerate of the world’s biggest corporations colluding with political representation – announced their partnership with WHO.

These unelected and unaccountable technocracies governed the pandemic response with iron fists. Within a year, global leaders were allegedly calling for a pandemic preparedness treaty. Health professionals understand the ludicrous nature of the slogan “nobody is safe, until everyone is safe” being used to sell the idea.

The thing behind this, that has been growing for years, is a movement to try to characterise life and nature as an emergency. Everything that normally happens and has happened for thousands of years, is suddenly an emergency. Viral variants are an emergency. Changes in climate are an emergency. Everything’s an emergency … An unelected health bureaucracy will use this mis-characterisation of life as an emergency in order to exert control over people’s lives and to use that for, as we saw in covid, making vast amounts of money and for political ambitions.

World Health Assembly Agenda

Relevant documents and viewing sessions of the 76th World Health Assembly are available at this link. Health emergency prevention, preparedness and response (HEPR) with a focus on ‘health for all’ lead three broad-ranging agendas, which we outline here.

One Health

An age-old concept of health is that the ecosystems we belong to all have an impact on our wellbeing.

What Can We Do?

It is imperative that we understand events, including the planning taking place at this week’s World Health Assembly, and communicate them to others, particularly our political representatives.

NZDSOS remain perplexed at our colleagues who consider testing for a single organism in healthy asymptomatic people to be a credible way to diagnose disease. We are concerned at how easily incentives and authoritarian dictates encouraged adherence to nonsensical and harmful interventions. The fact that so many complied suggests that our health system will follow similarly pseudoscientific demands in the future, risking further harm to the practice of medicine and public health, and subsequently to society. We need to demand better of health professionals implementing harmful policies.

Do you know how to contact any of the nine New Zealand delegates (see page 36) at this week’s World Health Assembly? We need to know how they are representing us at this un-democratic meeting where our sovereignty is being threatened.
