10 News Stories They Chose Not to Tell You

This is edition 2025/69 of the Ten@10 newsletter.

Welcome back. It's 2025 and 20 years since I started writing about politics and anything else that took my fancy. Thank to my VIP members for making this site what it is today. In July we will be having a 20th birthday celebration. Stay tuned for more announcements.

This is the Ten@10, where I collate and summarise ten news items you generally won't see in the mainstream media.

Enjoy!

  • 🔍 Lucy Rogers highlighted significant issues with police oversight and accountability in New Zealand, noting the police's impunity and lack of accountability during her arrest.
  • 🕵️ Initially suspecting the IPCA, Lucy later praised their integrity but pointed out the real issue lies with the Police Professional Conduct Unit (PPCU).
  • 📞 Despite filing a complaint, Lucy was never contacted or interviewed by the PPCU during their investigation into her arrest.
  • 📧 The PPCU's excuse of a typographical error for not contacting Lucy for an interview was deemed inadequate by her.
  • 👥 Neither Daniel Maxwell nor Officer Q were interviewed by the PPCU, raising questions about the thoroughness of their investigations.
  • 📝 The PPCU's reliance on notebook entries over interviews was criticized by Lucy as insufficient for determining the truth.
  • 🔄 When the IPCA requested the PPCU to review its conclusions, they refused to adjust their findings despite contrary evidence.
  • 🚫 Lucy's Official Information Act request regarding police complaint handling was denied, indicating transparency issues within the PPCU.
  • 🦊 Lucy concludes that transferring investigative resources from the PPCU to the IPCA is necessary to avoid conflicts of interest in police misconduct investigations.
