The only souls still possessed of political zeal are those whose fervour is the fervour of the wolf. What they see is a flesh-and-blood civilisation, meaty and unguarded, to be looted for the survival of their own mangy pack. I mean the commies, of course: the Greens, Labour, Te Pāti Māori, the gauchely named Opportunity Party, and the Islamic interest that travels openly in their company. Should these packs ever come into serious power, the country will be eaten out from its porn-soaked reproductive organs to its essential guts, and the devouring will be euphemised as gritty ‘real life’ until the old guards are gone – the Boomers, and we of Generation X.

Some of us have been observing, for more years than it is polite to count, that New Zealand is a follower nation. Under our sun there is only ever a smorgasbord of ideas fed to us by the UN, by Australia and by Britain, without even the pretence of an original thought fuelling a single issue of substance. King Solomon had the verdict long before our pollsters did. All is vanity. By vanity he did not mean the nihilist’s nothing, as if no thing possessed value. He meant the fleeting and the vapid: men and women doing nought but striving after wind. Our politicians, meanwhile, owe themselves to the polls. The polis may be damned.

We are not a Pacific invention. We are British in law, in language, and in the liberties we inherited, which is why the mother country is not some kind of foreign parable. UK Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood claims to be against the rape of women in the boats landing in Britain every single night, a picture which is now practically a myth, while facilitating into Britain the male rapist invaders: Muslim men, nearly all between 18 and 40, out of Iran, Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria and Eritrea, some three-quarters of that traffic. She wants to fast-track antisemitic Palestinian refugees into British society, as if that were a good idea. She carefully likes to speak of “the women,” though the policy is for the benefit of the men. The actual women are very few and far between, and even if they were not, these men are their brothers, their peers, and their problem, not Britain’s. Mahmood and her ilk are looters, and her Islamic brethren will continue to play brutal havoc with longstanding native Britain, and with their daughters, as we have already seen too many times to count, from Rotherham and Oxford to Glasgow and Ireland. France is already literally on fire with the same importation. The boats come into the United Kingdom every night, and nobody ever explains why Britain takes this atrocious behaviour from France.

New Zealand repeats the simpering sermons of Europe in a smaller voice. Labour hopeful and Te Atatū MP Phil Twyford rose in Auckland last month, before a room of mostly brown migration agents, and declared the argument a “dumpster fire” of right-wing populists demonising migrants and refugees. We were not to follow Europe and the United States into division and scapegoating. The centre must hold, he said. The two great parties must remain sensible and pro-immigration. To object is irrational and, should the objection spread, democracy itself is corroded. That is Mahmood’s munted homily, arriving late and without the boats. Twyford is the man Labour would hand the immigration file should they win in November, and next he too will be talking about Palestinian refugees. Boring NPC politicians, promising the same old crap, apart from Winston Peters and NZ First, the best of the crop.

Any party now offering itself to a Western free people must be, at the most intrinsic level, nationalist: it must care for its own nation, and for that nation’s actual people. The ancient Greeks gave us the examined life, the rule of reason, and the citizen who owes something to the polis before he owes it to his own craven appetites. That virtue passed into Christianity and became more potent, and from that ancient inheritance came the greatest civilisation ever seen – the one that relinquished slavery without being beaten into it from outside, and in which a woman might walk an English, Australian or New Zealand street alone in the dark without rape being treated as normal, let alone expected. None of us should vote for any politician who cannot speak to this incalculable loss which has happened in our mother country.
