It’s hard to sympathise with TVNZ and other failing legacy media outlets. They forgot what media is, so they missed the opportunity to adapt by solving their problems with technology.
Of course, the media as a tool of government isn’t going anywhere. In a democracy (even one as sclerotic as ours), the key to power is the control of what people think. Media helps to brainwash, sorry, persuade citizens to act in the required direction. By this standard alone, the media is the most powerful institution in the entire government.
