Driven to Death by the Left

The left virtue signal and black Americans die.

As we so often see, for all their constant howling about “racism”, the left are too often very, very racist indeed. Whether it’s punishing Asian kids for being too smart, or segregating cafes and college dorms for the first time in 60 years, the left seem strangely obsessed with making everything about skin colour.

However, almost invariably their prescriptions for “helping” the black people they both infantilise and fetishise end up making things even worse for black people.

Consider Lyndon B. Johnson’s “Great Society”, for instance. These sweeping welfare and civil rights reforms were supposed to propel American blacks into a bright new future. Instead, they fostered a culture of single parenthood that’s perhaps the greatest bane of black America. It’s not been much chop for poor whites, either, but it has grossly disproportionately affected blacks, for whom single parenthood has more than tripled, from 22 per cent in 1960 to around 75 per cent today. All with its well-attested correlations in everything from poor school achievement to poverty and crime.

Far from done with blighting the black lives they insist matter so very much to them, the left embarked on a demented programme from the mid-2010s and peaking in the 2020s that has really screwed blacks over. That programme was the so-called “racial reckoning” following, first, the death of thuggish criminal Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri, then that of even more thuggish criminal George Floyd in Minnesota in 2020.

The left turned both troglodyte crooks into grotesque secular saints – and unleashed a wave of death and destruction on America. Black America, disproportionately.

The first and most notable outcome, post-racial reckoning, was an astonishing surge in crime. Homicide, especially.

Deaths by homicide grew 17 percent among whites from 2010–2013 to 2020–2023 but 71 percent among blacks, even though blacks started with a radically higher rate of dying violently (usually at the hands of other blacks) […]

[In] no other major country did either traffic deaths or murders go up notably in 2020, because, while many foreign elites paid lip service to the racial reckoning, nobody else’s ruling class were so stupid as to shoot their country in the foot by sponsoring an actual cultural revolution.

The Biden administration and its media lickspittles like to point to statistics showing a decline in homicides in the past year or two. But homicides are still way above what they were, pre the Great Awokening. In 2021, in just six months, black homicides surged an astonishing 260 per cent from their historic low in 2016. Three years later, they’re still 160 per cent higher than in 2016.

What caused it? Democrat-run cities embarked on an insane social experiment of de-policing. Police budgets were slashed and masses of officers either sacked or pushed into retirement. The few who remained became so terrified of falling victim to yet another media-political witch hunt that they simply stopped policing at all.

Especially traffic policing.

One of the great dogmas of the racial reckoning was that traffic stops were “racist”, because they disproportionately targeted black drivers. That black drivers might be more likely to drive crappier, unregistered cars with less regard for road rules was an unspeakable heresy. As was the notion that, having pulled over a black driver for a busted tail light, cops were much more likely to subsequently notice a drug- or alcohol-impaired driver, or ring up a list of outstanding felony charges or spot illegal drugs or firearms in the back seat or trunk. Or realise that the car was stolen.

That reluctance to pull anyone over any more has led to not just an explosion in homicides, but a commensurate spike in road deaths, again disproportionately affecting blacks.

Traffic stops are down 88 percent in Ferguson since the Obama Justice Department, unable to document its accusation that the inner suburb’s underpaid police department was racist, denounced it for running a speed trap. Not surprisingly, motorists in Ferguson are now speeding more.

Up until Ferguson, whites had a slightly higher per capita car accident death rate than did blacks. But blacks pulled far ahead in June 2020.

In tandem with the collapse in basic policing, another cultural phenomenon has emerged that the racially conscious mainstream media dares not mention.

That blacks have become much worse drivers over the past decade seems newsworthy to me, but nobody else will touch the story.

A half century ago, blacks weren’t bad drivers. Street racing was more of a thing among white working-class kids, as in American Graffiti, Grease, and Bruce Springsteen songs. But in this century, while young whites have lost interest in cars, young blacks have felt a growing need for speed.

This cultural shift might be interesting to readers, but it’s apparently considered in poor taste to mention it because it violates the most sacred rule of the prestige press in this century: Never say anything critical of blacks.

And so black Americans continue to die because white leftists are too ‘anti-racist’ to tell them to lift their damn game.
