There will also be an impetus on maintenance and pothole prevention to reduce the number of potholes on the country’s roads. There would be, however, reduced funds for cycleways, and no funds for speed bumps in the three-year programme.

The Government has announced it will pour $32.9 billion into new state highways, road policing, public transport, and rail over the next three years.

Minister of Transport Simeon Brown unveiled the Government’s latest National Land Transport Programme in Wellington on Monday.

This programme sets out the spending which backs up the Government’s plans for transport between 2024 and 207.

Notable parts of the plan include a heavy investment in Roads of National Significance (RoNS) across the country, with 17 named as being a focus for attention.

There will also be an impetus on maintenance and pothole prevention to reduce the number of potholes on the country’s roads, and a push for reliable public transport services and support to deliver four new major public transport projects in the main centres.

There would be, however, reduced funds for cycleways, and no funds for speed bumps in the three-year programme.
