A man who allegedly murdered an 8-year-old boy in his home had been issued a trespass order by police earlier in the day following reports of “suspicious behaviour” at a local motel.
The man was then dropped off by police at his home before he allegedly murdered Zahquiel Taipeti with a hammer and injured two others, including his father.
A police spokesperson told Stuff on Wednesday that police responded to reports of suspicious behaviour at a Hamilton motel on Sunday.
“After speaking to a man and issuing a trespass order, officers transported the man to his verified home address.
“A man was later arrested in relation to a fatal assault at the address.”
