Lisa Carrington became New Zealand’s most prolific Olympic medallist on Thursday when she won gold in the canoe sprint women’s K1 500 final in Tokyo – her third gold of the Games.

The victory gave Carrington her sixth Olympic medal and fifth gold, pushing her to the top of the country’s Olympic podium she shared for two days with fellow paddlers Ian Ferguson and Paul MacDonald and equestrian Sir Mark Todd, who all won five Olympic medals.
