Yes, making crime, particularly drugs, unprofitable IS the heart of the issue. But… not so sure that this is the answer.

  • Are gang members going to fill out questionnaires honestly, seriously?? The ‘rich listers’ (or their lawyers) are also adept at tax avoidance and gangs employ lawyers and accountants, too.
  • Who would then be profiting from drug deals? Government bodies and infrastructure? If Government bodies benefit from drug sales, then what makes them any different from the gangs? Will they really want to stop drug deals then?
  • It’s feasible to tax known, confiscated proceeds of crime, but this already gets distributed to Government ministries, so it would only be a paper-shuffling exercise.
