Modern-day book burners have been busy this month and have successfully de-platformed two authors for the crime of posting memes or opinions on social media that the modern-day book burners don’t like.
Since Christmas is around the corner and we are all looking for some great holiday reading I thought that these forbidden books might be just the ticket.
If you like cook books then the author you want to look out for is Pete Evans an Australian Chef who this week was de-platformed by The Warehouse for posting an offensive meme. Stuff is currently trying to get Mighty Ape to de-platform him as well with their inference that since Mighty Ape de-platformed New Zealand Author Olivia Pierson for not liking facial tattoos, they should also de-platform Pete Evans for posting an offensive meme.
The Warehouse will stop selling the work of controversial Australian chef Pete Evans but his books and food products are still widely available in New Zealand.
Among the retailers still stocking Evans’ products is Mighty Ape, which just weeks ago dropped a book by American author Olivia Pearson after she made derisive comments about Foreign Affairs Minister Nanaia Mahuta’s moko.
This is a clear example of legacy media trying to create the news. What is the bet that the next article they write will be about how Mighty Ape has now caved to pressure to de-platform him as well?

At the end of the day we are all adults capable of making up our own minds as to whether or not we want to read a writer’s book. That choice should not be taken away from us by a Nanny State or by cowardly booksellers attempting to impose their political or moral beliefs on their customers. At the rate they are going, a new market is going to open up for publishers and booksellers with a spine to publish and to sell forbidden books. I am sure that it will be a lucrative niche market as new writers are being bullied, punished and de-platformed almost every month these days.
