I hate bigots with different opinions

Table of Contents

A bigot is defined as a person who is obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices and one who regards or treats the members of a group with hatred and intolerance.

It was interesting to read a headline on a post put up by the Party for Socialism and Liberation – PSL, the people waving the banners above.

“Down with all forms of bigotry”

A wonderful, tolerant aspiration.

Bigotry must be done away with, they say. We cannot have people who are intolerant of those with differing opinions. We cannot have those who treat other groups with hatred.

But wait ….

We must unite to ‘smash’ white supremacy, while also being down on bigotry and intolerance.

My head is hurting.

Suppose we change their banners to read:

  • Unite to smash immigrants
  • Unite to smash black lives
  • Unite to smash Muslims
  • Unite to smash LGBTQ people
  • Unite to smash low-wage workers

Ummmm … no!  Getting into hate speech territory here.

But …

Unite to smash white supremacy and, by implication, white supremacists is fine!  Definitely NOT bigotry or intolerance.

Are you keeping up?
