Jacinda Ardern, Chris Hipkins, Ayesha Verrall and Grant Robertson, the four amigos from the Labour Party most happy to put the boot in during the Covid pandemic, now appear to not want to be held accountable in public for their actions. When the boot is on the other foot, these bullies, not unsurprisingly, become cowards. What an absolute disgrace.
Jacinda Ardern, Chris Hipkins, Ayesha Verrall and Grant Robertson have unmasked who they really are: gutless people who have no regard for principles or ethics. They have proven what the majority of us believed all along. Their behaviour shows they have no place in positions of power or responsibility. They used the opportunity Covid provided to force their ideology on to a public that had no say in the matter. It was a means for Ardern to put in place all she had learned through her association with the International Union of Socialist Youth (IUSY) of which she then became president. Whether she saw it as an opportunity to test the waters – to see how much of her ideology the public would put up with – is an open question. But this country didn’t endure some of the harshest lockdowns for no reason.
The opportunity to put the ideological boot in at one o’clock each day was an opportunity too good to miss. The “single source of truth”; nobody allowed in or out of the country (if you did make it in you were basically imprisoned in a hotel), no compassion granted to dying relatives, police everywhere, road blocks and dob in your neighbour (and don’t even talk to your neighbour). It was the Gestapo once removed. To top it off was the farcical message on motorways to Be Kind.
And now they don’t want to explain their actions or their reasons in a public hearing. Well, in terms of being held accountable, the boot fits very well, and these scaredy-cats should be made to meow: they were the main players and the majority of the public demand they do so. It is time for them to be compelled.
I’m sure if we had a Fifth Amendment, as they do in the United States, these ratbags would use it to escape due responsibility. The left of politics seems to have a habit of attracting these objectionable types of people that come across as thoroughly unlikeable, due to their propensity to throw their weight around when they get the chance, and then expect no consequences.
These four need to rethink their strategy, particularly the two still in the House. The one they have chosen is not a good look in the eyes of the public. Robertson’s expression “show trial” gives you a good idea of his thought processes and no doubt the other three share his view. Meanwhile, the coalition is still trying to sort the mess out that Robertson created.
Anyone who shies away from public accountability is not to be trusted. If you can’t speak to your behaviour in a public setting then you lack the courage of your convictions. That is not an honourable trait if you are in public office. You are demeaning yourself and bringing yourself into disrepute in the eyes of the voters. A change of heart is required but I believe their hearts were never in the right place to begin with.
