Letter to the Editor: National Party Is Alive and Well!

letter to the editor letters

Dear Editor

Having earned the right to be counted as a SuperBlue, I was welcomed at a recent Morning Coffee meeting, the guest speaker being Andrew Bayley. I was impressed with the innovative and progressive ideas that he shared with us in regards to all matters concerning New Zealand’s economy.

By sitting at the back of the venue, the sea of “mature” heads” between Andrew and myself was quite apparent. The question time proved to be most thought provoking but predominantly founded on outdated mature ideas and practices. Some of these have reached their used by date.

Then, I was surprised but excited to receive the 23rd Annual Bluegreens Forum Report. I had no idea what National’s considerations on these issues were but what a fantastic report. As one reads the whole report, it once again shows that the National party is being innovative and progressive.

“Please remember that the views in this newsletter are personal views, and do not necessarily reflect current National Party policy.”

This line on the front page is vital for understanding where National are coming from and could easily be overlooked if the newsletter was read in haste or angst.

To add to my delight the “Week in Review” email from the National Party office arrived in my inbox. Great reading and definitely indicating that the National Party is “alive and well”.

The clock keeps ticking, life changes day by day with tomorrow being an unknown.

If National is going to make an impact in New Zealand then it needs to be relevant, to teenagers as well as their grandparents. I think they are on their way.

I have been waxing lyrical along these lines to my 96 year old mum (an oldie but a goodie who has a Q.S.M and continues to write letters to various ones in parliament), to my friends in the Hydrotherapy pool, to my neighbours and to anyone who seems interested in the reality of living in New Zealand.

Being in opposition has often been described as the hardest place to be in parliament, so dig in Judith and team. May you have all the wisdom, discernment and insight along with courage and tenacity that is needed to hold this government to account and to win back the favour and support of the majority of New Zealanders.

The March SuperBlues Morning Coffee meeting looms with guest speaker Dr Shane Reti. Is there any wonder that I am excited about it?

Go National!
