Life comes at you fast: for the last three years, Democrats and their media bootlickers have non-stop screeched that protesting an election result is ‘insurrection’. Such protesters must be met with deadly force and mass arrests. Not even little old ladies waving American flags were to be spared hefty prison sentences.
Fast forward to 2024, and the very same US administration and media are supporting Venezuelans who are rioting because they, too, believe the incumbent rigged the election.
Undeterred, the Venezuelan government is taking another leaf from the Biden administration’s book: if you can’t beat your opponent at the ballot box, just arrest them.
Venezuela’s Public Ministry has opened a criminal investigation into presidential candidate Edmundo González Urrutia and opposition leader María Corina Machado, the country’s Attorney General Tarek William Saab said in a statement on Monday.
The Public Ministry said the investigation was sparked by the two opposition figures’ call for the military and police to stand “on the side of the people” in an open letter published on social media on Monday.
That’s even more insurrection-y than Donald Trump urging his followers to march peacefully to the Capitol to register their protest at the election results.
The Public Ministry accused the defendants of “falsely announcing a winner of the presidential elections,” adding that only the country’s official National Electoral Council is qualified to make that call.
According to the agency, González and Machado will be investigated for “the alleged commission of the crimes of usurpation of functions, dissemination of false information to cause unrest, incitement to disobey the law, incitement to insurrection, association to commit crimes and conspiracy.”
It’s almost as if they’re holding up a mirror to El Norte.
Machado is no more cowed than Donald Trump.

She would be wise to stay well away from anywhere with a sloping rooftop in the vicinity.
Meanwhile, continuing the curious inversion of all things insurrection, Democrat politicians are now urging what it damned as disgraceful and criminal only three years ago.
Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) told a group at Washington DC bookstore Politics and Prose that it is up to Congress to disqualify Donald Trump from the election 2024 on January 6, 2025. The comments came before the Supreme Court ruled that states could not take Trump off the ticket in the election using the 14th Amendment.
Raskin suggested that if SCOTUS rejected the case against Trump, that the responsibility to disqualify Trump from the election would fall to Congress.
Flashback to 2022, and here’s Raskin calling the claim that Congress could refuse to certify election results “an attempted coup”. It was an illegal attempt to “make the electoral college votes of millions of people disappear”.
Funny how it’s different when they do it.
