In a case of supreme arrogance, Auckland Mayor Phil Goff has labelled anyone who disagrees with the Government’s Chinese plague response as stupid.
He also appears to be pining for the sort of draconian enforcement being meted out on the citizens of Victoria by “Dictator Dan”.
Goff said they should only move to level 2 properly if it’s safe to do so. He says the move down from level 3 was more important to Auckland than the next step.
“The big change for us was getting out of level 3. It was hugely welcomed and people have responded pretty responsibly to it.
“That opened up a whole range of businesses and brought back a lot of normality.”
He said he’s impressed to see Aucklanders take up mask wearing not just on public transport, but in public spaces including supermarkets.
Goff said it’s a worry that misinformation is spreading but, by and large, people are doing the right thing.
“It is really obnoxious that people can spread misinformation, inaccurate information, lies, that can damage people’s wellbeing and health through social media.
“There are fringe groups in any society, we’ve just got to make sure they remain fringe groups.”
Goff said it’s disappointing that members of the Mt Roskill church were sceptical about Covid-19 and held a meeting while level 3 restrictions were in place.
“We’ve all signed up for the rules.”
He said prosecution is at the end of the line, but shouldn’t be ruled out for people who knowingly break the rules or spread misinformation.
“The huge responsibility is the leader of fringe political parties going out and organising rallies and telling people there’s nothing to worry about. That’s what the President of the United States was saying too, so it’s not limited to a fringe group in New Zealand.”
Goff said it’s not a failing of the government or health authorities to reach people who are sceptical, it’s a failing of their own intellect.
“Anyone that goes out and says there’s no such thing as Covid is just denying reality.”
Talk about arrogance. I say, not questioning authority shows people are just a flock of sheep.
We didn’t all sign up for the rules, they were imposed on us, and at the start they were illegal.
His comments are in a similar vein to Hillary Clinton‘s “deplorables” comment. I hope it bites him and Labour just as hard.
People aren’t saying that COVID isn’t real, they are questioning how it has been handled. But, if you disagree with Jacinda Ardern’s COVID response you are labelled a denier and the Government says if you don’t agree with their experts you are spreading disinformation.
That’s insulting to the nation of Sweden, who took an alternate view, based on science.
Goff and Labour are simply conflating any challenge to the response strategy and/or management with the more tin foil hatter conspiracy theories and use the “crazies” tag for all of them.
But, here’s a question for Goff though, if say “Plan B” wanted to hire a Council venue, would he try and stop that too? I suspect the answer to that would offer the proof that we are in the grips of wannabe dictators who won’t brook any challenges to their authority.
What Goff doesn’t realise is “them” is me. I disagree with lockdown and don’t believe we will see a reliable vaccine in my lifetime. I do believe the science around treatment using Hydroxychloroquine and Ivermectin is sound and I do believe we should wrap support around the elderly and vulnerable.
If Phil Goff wants to prosecute people for spreading misinformation then I have some hot tips for him on where to start. There was a conspiracy stating that the lockdown was legal, which was later proven to be false.
There was also a guy who I have on video stating that masks are useless:
And who later agreed that he was just spreading misinformation and they were a good idea after all:
Then there was a guy saying that border workers were being tested, which as it turned out was totally false. There was a guy who said the police were involved in tracking down contacts when it was only one policeman in the back room.
I have lots more, and with clear video evidence too. So, Phil, let’s have a coffee at Crave and I will give you all their names so that you can start the prosecutions!
Phil Goff says that COVID-19 deniers are “unintelligent”, while he demonstrates his own inability to figure out how a simple mask is supposed to be worn.
