Rawiri Waititi Can Say Whatever He Likes

letter to the editor letters

Dear Editor

I would love to see what would happen if David Seymour said he would put seeds in Rawiri Waititis’s drink to kill him. There would be cries of racism from the Willie Jackson and the Mahutas of this world so loud you would hear it in Australia.

Waititi is saying that he was only joking but sometimes a joke can be quite hurtful and the way it was said was not friendly. This is from a man who insists on wearing a ten-gallon hat into Parliament when most people would say it’s against dress protocols.

Let’s face it, just having a Maori party in Parliament is racist. I know what would happen if I were to form a white party or a Chinese party. On top of this, it was announced by an Auckland Community hub that they will help Maori and Pacifica start their own businesses. This is straight-out racism. When is this going to stop? We live in a multicultural society and everyone should in this day and age be treated equally.

It’s time to stop racism as we don’t get to choose our colour at birth.

Hīkoi No More Than a Hiccup

The politicians, particularly those on the right, with the exception of ACT, need to realise that those who put them in power did so in the belief the necessary courage was there to fix this festering sore. We are now left in doubt and that is not good enough.

National could, under urgency, progress Seymour’s bill to second reading and vote it down, but this would put immense strain on the coalition, which is supposed to operate based on good faith and Cabinet consensus. An early election could be provoked, leading to National bleeding votes to ACT.
