Late on Thursday night I got up to go to the bathroom. I had been sick for two days and had probably become dehydrated, which contributed to my potassium levels dropping and therefore low blood pressure. When I stood up it was lights out. I woke up face down on the floor of my bathroom. I was groggy and clearly not thinking properly. So I dragged myself back to bed and went to sleep.
When I awoke around 0600 my face was stuck to the pillow, which was covered in blood. I had an awful pain at the back of skull and a very sore neck. I looked in the mirror and saw I had taken a hit to the face, obviously when I had blacked out.
Anyway, I’ve spent nearly three days in hospital getting fixed up…but the headaches and the hurty brain mean I need to take things a bit easy work-wise. The good news is the CT scan showed no brain bleed or fractures, and my neck is clear too. The pain in my neck is believed to be whiplash from the smack to the face.
There is a story to tell, too, about the standard of care at North Shore Hospital. That will be told in due course.
