If you are a National Party supporter, the last couple of days must have been pretty galling to you. You’ve sat there and watched Christopher Luxon throwing his coalition partner under the proverbial bus and contemporaneously spent time sucking up to protestors and ne’er-do-wells who will never vote for him.
Prime Minister Christopher Luxon said every New Zealander had the right to peaceful protest.
“I urge everyone participating in the hīkoi over the next few days to be safe. I am conscious of the depth of feeling among many Māori toward the Treaty Principles Bill and want to reassure New Zealanders that National will vote against the bill at second reading.”

Most New Zealanders don’t want that at all. In fact most New Zealanders want to have the debate that the bill intends us to have. But Christopher Luxon, it seems, is the political equivalent of the Cowardly Lion from The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
