The Terminator Warned About the Temptations of Freedom

Too many women are choosing perfect freedom and that is their prerogative. Yet no one will remember their names. They will fade into anonymity.

Over the weekend, I was reading about declining birthrates and immediately thought of the 1984 sci-fi movie The Terminator.

Most analyses of that film have focused on the dangers of technology or the Cold War fear of nuclear war. Those were good breakdowns, but they missed the point. I think the movie was a straightforward female hero story. Not the feminist “girl-boss” hero, but a true archetype.
