Their Actions Speak Louder than Their Jets

Judge the Climate Cult by how they whoop it up in exotic resorts.

It’s tough, being a climate activist. The Good Oil. Image by Lushington Brady.

Ever notice that they never have ‘climate summits’ at the Rooty Hill RSL or a Butlins in Bognor Regis? No, it’s always five-star resorts in faraway, exotic destinations. And it always involves a fleet of jets.

If you really believed there was a wolf at your door, you’d bar the door or at least have a gun handy. If you said there was a wolf, but you left the door wide open with a juicy steak hanging from the lintel, the rest of us would be justified in thinking that you’re either a loony or lying through your teeth.

We can similarly judge just how seriously the Climate Cult believe their own bullshit by how they act.

And this is invariably with other people’s money, preferably in a tropical paradise with golf courses, lagoon pools and in-house nightclubs.

Climate Change Minister Chris Bowen and his team are paying up to $4.2m to lock in accommodation for foreign bureaucrats at luxury five-star resorts in Fiji as part of his COP president mission.

And that’s before the gabfest even starts.

According to the latest AusTender contracts, the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water has set aside up to $4,217,040 of taxpayers’ money to host delegates at a pre-COP31 meeting in Fiji in early October, which Mr Bowen will preside over as the Conference of the Parties co-president.

The lucky foreign bureaucrats will be billeted at the Sheraton Fiji Golf and Beach Resort (rooms up to $1,200 a night, 18-hole golf course included), the Sofitel Fiji Resort and Spa (six restaurants, wellness centre, nightclub) and a bit of overflow at the Radisson Blu (four lagoon pools and a waterslide, just in case the climate emergency gets too stressful).

Just weeks after Bowen insisted his COP role was “good value”, the government is snapping up entire waterfront resorts on Denarau Island so that the global climate priesthood can sip cocktails while fretting about sea levels. The CO₂ emissions from the champagne alone will exceed those of many small nations. Some foreign delegations will supposedly stump up their own costs (starting with the Turks), but Australia will generously cover the rest, because nothing says ‘Pacific climate leadership’ like picking up the tab for European and Latin American junketeers.

Oh, but they had no choice, you see.

A DCCEEW spokesman said […] “The venues are the only suitable locations capable of accommodating an event of this scale, with the required accommodation capacity,” the spokesman said.

They could have all Zoomed in from their offices in their own countries and saved all the emissions and expense. But where’s the fun in that?

Now that the Sky Dragon has given Boofhead the papacy of the Climate Cult, he’s determined to enjoy it.

According to the anonymous acolyte, this is all ‘standard operating practice’. Standard for the Climate Cult, perhaps. Ordinary Australians watching their power bills double under Bowen’s renewables fantasy might beg to differ.

This is merely the latest instalment in Bowen’s taxpayer-funded vanity project. Nearly $150 million has already been earmarked for his COP presidency and Pacific ‘engagement’. Almost half a million went on travel in the first four months of the year alone, including a $24,000 business-class jaunt to Fiji just to scope out the resorts.

If the planet really were on fire, these people would be meeting in a tin shed in Canberra and taking the train. Instead they jet off to island resorts, pat themselves on the back for ‘strengthening regional stability’ and send the bill to the punters.

The Climate Cult’s actions have always spoken louder than their sermons. They demand we freeze in the dark, eat bugs and surrender prosperity while they holiday in paradise on the public purse.

When the wolf is at the door, they don’t barricade it. They book the penthouse suite next door and order room service.
