Tory, Dear, Your Trousers Are Alight

Thick as a brick, stupid to boot and now a proven liar.

The phrase ’liar, liar, pants on fire’ is said to have come from William Blake’s poem The Liar. There appears to be considerable debate about the origins of the phrase but the first verse of Blake’s poem is pretty clear.

Deceiver, dissembler
Your trousers are alight
From what pole or gallows
Shall they dangle in the night?

And now it appears that Tory Whanau’s claim that she sold her car to meet the cost of living crisis may in fact have been a lie.
