In my many conversations with the Trump-deranged, one thing is immediately obvious. Their visceral reaction to Trump is entirely personal. Policies run a distant second to their emotional gut-reactions. It’s Orange Man Bad, all the way.
To which I always answer, “Sure, he’s an asshole. I won’t deny it. But he’s the asshole who’s doing the job he was elected to do”. More to the point, yes, Trump is a bully – but sometimes you need a bully on your side against an even bigger bully.
Trump is taking on one of the biggest bullies around: the Long March through the institutions. He’s swinging his first biff at its culture wars nose.
Donald Trump has launched a scathing attack on what he called “decades of left-wing indoctrination’’ in schools that has taught Americans to be ashamed of their country.
In his most pointed campaign speech on America’s culture wars, the president linked the recent violence in US cities to an education system that he said taught hatred rather than patriotism.
Empirical data shows that both education and history are dominated by the left. That’s finding its expression in such odious propaganda as Howard Zinn’s A People’s History of the United States (a standard text in many American schools), the 1619 Project (which won a Pulitzer, despite being derided by historians). Locally, Bruce Pascoe’s risible fantasy, Dark Emu, is being insinuated into school history curricula.
Trump is right that the wave of leftist violence scorching America is the direct result of the Long March indoctrination. After all, if, as a generation has been taught, America is irredeemably racist and oppressive, what else is the natural reaction?
He said US schools and universities were teaching “Critical Race Theory’’ which taught young Americans that the US was a “wicked and racist nation’’ about which they should be ashamed.
“The left is attempting to divide Americans by race in the service of political power. By viewing every issue through the lens of race, they want to impose a new segregation and we must not allow that to happen,’’ he said.
“The crusade against American history is toxic propaganda, ideological poison that if not removed will dissolve the civic bonds that tie us together. It will destroy our country.
“Whether it is the mob on the street, or the cancel culture in the boardroom, the goal is the same: to silence dissent, to scare you out of speaking the truth, and to bully Americans into abandoning their values, their heritage, and their very way of life,’’ he said.
“Critical Race Theory” is Nazism in blackface. It’s the same racist garbage as Nazi Race Theory, seeking to scapegoat an entire race for every imaginable problem. The irony is that it is so eagerly swallowed by self-hating whites. It’s almost as if Jews took to smashing their own windows on Kristallnacht.
Ordinary Americans have looked on in helpless fury as their children have been subjected to decades of left-wing indoctrination. Trump is taking their side.
“There is no more powerful force than a parent’s love for their children — and patriotic moms and dads are going to demand that their children are no longer fed hateful lies about this country,” Mr Trump said. “American parents are not going to accept indoctrination in our schools, cancel culture at work, or the repression of traditional faith, culture and values in the public square. Not anymore[…]
“Students in our universities are inundated with critical race theory. This is a Marxist doctrine holding that America is a wicked and racist nation, that even young children are complicit in oppression, and that our entire society must be radically transformed,’’ the president said.
“Critical race theory is being forced into our children’s schools, it’s being imposed into workplace training, and it’s being deployed to rip apart friends, neighbours, and families.
“Teaching this horrible doctrine to our children is a form of child abuse in the truest sense of those words,” he said.
