The BFD

I’m quite comfortable with opinion pieces being published in the MSM providing the contributor is not just a name. I would like to know what their affiliations are to see what motivates their views. Most who read such articles are not political junkies so will assume that by virtue of the piece being presented on a news platform that it must be authentic and factual in its representation. One such opinion piece was published in Stuff last Thursday under the heading: “The MAGA hat is gone but important questions remain” by Donna Miles-Mojab, a Guest writer.

I have read much farcical prose in my time but this particular paragraph by the author would have to be right up there with the most convoluted of all time. She manages to connect Todd Muller by way of his MAGA hat, to Donald Trump, Donald Trump to white supremacy and white supremacy to Brenton Tarrant the Christchurch shooter (Tarrant’s Islamophobia being the motivation to commit the massacre). So there appears, in her opinion, to be an indisputable link between Todd Muller and Tarrant’s murderous rampage! The paragraph is below. See if you can “read between the lines”.

“Indeed, how could anyone witness such a shocking act of hate and not change? How could the brutal killing of 51 innocent souls not move Todd Muller to rethink the appropriateness of his office décor? What does that say about the judgment of a man aspiring to be New Zealanders’ next prime minister? Hearing Muller’s defence of the hat must have been deeply hurtful to the victims’ families because it completely ignored the fact that the mosque shootings had ever happened. We learnt of the shooter’s connection to white supremacist groups emboldened by Trump”.

– Donna Miles-Mojab, Guest writer.

So there you have it. Such tripe needed further investigation. Who is this grand conspiracy theorist? The first thing that pops up is a photo of the author draped arm in arm together with the Iranian overstayer, Behrouz Boochani and Golriz Ghahraman. The three of them obviously need a room.

But here is a glaring contradiction. In an article published on 23 January 2017, in The Spinoff, she has this to say:

“Our mental association with what we see matters. Our brains have been trained to see black-clad women as oppressed ISIS supporters because that is what we see in the media all the time. We need to be honest with ourselves and accept that our fear of the burqa is about our fear of Muslims, who are constantly vilified in the media”.

I might suggest then she had better get honest with herself and accept that her fear of red caps is about her fear of the National Party, who is constantly vilified in the media. Especially Stuff where such tripe flows unabated.
