Reported in the NZ Herald 19 April:
“Health Minister David Clark said that in the next eight weeks, the Government expected 75 million items of PPE to be delivered into New Zealand, including 17 million masks, more than two million gowns and coveralls, and 13.8 million gloves”.
Wow! That’s a slip of the tongue. He obviously didn’t get the memo that required him to follow the Government’s lead to fake it until they make it. Right from the start, health workers, aged care facility workers and those who are essential workers have been complaining relentlessly that they felt vulnerable due to the Government’s inability to provide adequate PPE. And now we know why.
This is appalling. It appears there was a five-month delay in meeting these demands. This is a real and damning indictment of this Government’s lack of preparedness to protect those on the front line. A huge shipment in the pipeline confirms that the fears raised by those at the coalface were genuine and factual.
Could these headlines been avoided had the Government moved faster?
“51 medical staff in New Zealand have caught Covid-19”.
NZ Herald 6th April
“One third of new Covid-19 cases are health workers”
Newsroom 14 April
“Number of healthcare workers diagnosed with Covid-19 doubles in a week”.
Stuff 17th April
I wonder if the real reason David Clark has been sidelined in his capacity as Health Minister is not just to do with his incompetence but more to do with his Christian faith being in conflict with the need to lie, along with his parliamentary colleagues, in order to cover up this Government’s failings?
