Destiny Church leader Brian Tamaki says New Zealand is under threat from a foreign religious takeover.

In a tweet posted on Monday, Tamaki pointed to several religious development projects as evidence of an “erosion” of New Zealand values.

“A giant Buddhist statue is being erected in Orewa – not a small shrine, not a private memorial, but a bold public display of a foreign religion on Kiwi soil,” he wrote.

Tamaki also cited plans for a Hindu youth centre in South Auckland featuring a 40-foot statue of Lord Hanuman, as well as a proposed Hindu temple complex in Drury set across 4.5 hectares.

“This is what I stood for last Saturday. This is what thousands marched for,” Tamaki said, referring to a recent protest by the Freedom and Rights Coalition.

With Auckland’s local body elections looming, Tamaki warned voters about candidates he claims do not represent “Kiwi values”. Without naming individuals, he says that some candidates of immigrant backgrounds would support further religious developments like temples and mosques.

“NZ Patriots – if there’s ever been a time to rise up, it’s now,” Tamaki concluded, calling on supporters to mobilise.
