Is It Really All America’s Fault?

America didn’t ‘invade’ Europe: along with Britain, it saved Europe from itself. In the long run, in vain.

A Nazi propaganda postcard from Vichy France. The Good Oil.

In his Real Good Oil piece last week, Nathan Smith argued that the real cause of European decline wasn’t the millions of Muslims and sub-Saharan Africans who have invaded the continent over recent decades. No, he argued, it was the world’s great bogeyman: America.

Now, I appreciate a good contrarian as much as anyone. But is Nathan really onto something?

The problems begin very early on in his argument:

Europeans […] were conquered in 1945 and those occupiers are in total control of their politics, culture and future.

Conquered? Or saved?
