Is Luxon going to replace Goff?

Seems like a perfect solution... to many problems.

Winston’s decisive action in giving Phil Goff the arse for stupid comments means there is a vacancy in London.

Sources inside National are saying that senior members of National have approached Winston to see if he will appoint Christopher Luxon to London to give him a dignified exit.

This shows both the desperation of National, who want to avoid a messy coup, and their lack of understanding of Winston’s views on politicians being appointed to diplomatic posts.

He has earned the undying affection of the MFAT staff by blocking sop appointments to failed politicians, preferring the professional diplomats who have decades of experience as diplomats.

So Luxon may find his short-term saviour is Winston. National might have to have a talk to Brian Tamaki about how to man up and do it themselves.
