As part of our drive to keep our comment section the best in New Zealand we showcase each week an example of a top-notch comment that adds value to The BFD.
Today’s comment was written by George Thank you George for taking the time to craft such an interesting comment.
There has been much comment by political commentators, including us on this site, regarding Luxon calling on NZF if required after the election. Also, how will the relationship between Peters and Seymour pan out? Which assortment of names would you prefer heading up the next Government? Luxon, Seymour and Peters or the five-headed monster Hipkins. Shaw/Davidson and Ngarewa-Packer/Waititi?
What are we arguing about? The centre-right coalition leaders have one thing in common, the desire to rid New Zealand of the cancer that has spread to every part of the nation’s extremities. Most on this site would have this desire in common. So I ask again, what are we arguing about?
Potentially, when elected, each centre/right-wing party will have presented a variety of policies that we may agree or disagree with. Many of these policies will, of course, never see the light of day. National, by virtue of size, will dictate the majority of policy whilst ACT and NZF will be afforded a few concessions. The likelihood of ACT and NZF voting in unison to defeat a National initiative is highly unlikely considering the current relationship between their leaders. Also, neither party have declared “bottom line” provisos.
In my humble opinion, this combination of leaders is a very well-balanced trio. Luxon, the moderate liberal, Seymour a right-wing reformist, and Peters, the “tell it as it is” egalitarian. What could go wrong? A lot could go wrong but for all the right reasons. These three men are ego-driven, demand media attention and have intellect.
If they learn to harness their egos and govern for all NZers it could become one of the strongest, powerful and most successful alliances this country has experienced. I believe they are aware of this and will act according. They have an obligation to us all not to be politicians but middle NZ Kiwis who want the best for all NZers. Am I living in a fantasy world? At my age, my imagination is allowed some slack. But if they get rid of Labour then my glass will be half full.
