The Encroachment of the State during the COVID-19 Lockdown

OK – I’m going to come out and say it. I’m now a sceptic on the modelling that is being used to make all the decisions related to COVID-19. Before I am lambasted for being irresponsible, I will let you know I am immunosuppressed so I have a highly vested interest in understanding the issue, cause, mortality rate, R0 etc.

My concern is that, as a society, there has been no reasoned debate of the modelling or assumptions used to then make fundamental and catastrophic decisions about the economy and our way of life. We have not even been allowed to see any of the models, assumptions or counter positions. This concern has only been heightened by politicians and government bureaucrats who have rammed through changes – again without any reasoned debate. If there is any chance of debate, then you are usually quickly shut down by being accused of being xenophobic or racist, or simply sworn at.

The final trigger for me was listening to Peter Hitchens in a podcast with James Delingpole about the encroachment of the state during the coronavirus lockdown and how quickly people rush to give up their liberties during times of uncertainty and fear.

I would highly recommend it to anyone who has a sneaking suspicion of the rationale for such drastic measures being currently taken.

Needless to say, I formally doubt anything the Government, Police Commissioner and some of the other bureaucrats are saying. I will of course observe all the laws and precautions; however, I personally believe that history will not judge these leaders well.
