Where ‘DEI’ Has Driven New Zealand

Horrid products of Woketearoa’s abandonment of merit.

Citizen typist. Enthusiastic amateur.

Political party New Zealand First has initiated legislation that, if and when enacted, will remove the current statutory compulsion for NZ’s public service to prioritize diversity, equity and inclusiveness (DEI) over merit and competence. In connection with the proposed de-DEI-ing, New Zealand First Leader Winston Peters brusquely announced:

This bill would put an end to the woke left-wing social engineering and diversity targets in the public sector. New Zealand is a country founded on meritocracy not on some mind-numbingly stupid ideology.

Removing Woke ‘DEI’ requirements will give the public confidence that the right person is in the right job based on their skills not their identity.

Jevon McSkimming, ex-Deputy Police Commissioner

Viewing child pornography and bestiality on one’s work computer – plus being a sexual predator – are not typical DEI criteria for climbing the public service ladder. But it’s equally clear that Jevon McSkimming’s meteoric rise to the lofty position of deputy police commissioner was not on merit. Bestial Jevon had been the police’s top dog in implementing Plodtearoa’s ideologically partisan “Prevention First Strategy” – the departed Labour Government’s strange, errant strategy of “preventing” crime by simply ignoring criminality (works well for crime stats).

Have the wealthy McSkimming family ever donated to Labour, I wonder?

Jevon’s career in the police had been mediocre for a quarter of a century before he was transferred to the Soviet Socialist Republic of Wellington. It was in Wellington that, with his animal cunning and connection to Coster, Jevon endeared himself to the Labour Government. In April 2023, then Labour Prime Minister Chris Hipkins appointed McSkimming as deputy police commissioner. At that time, the police’s Big Dog (police commissioner) was Andrew Coster, himself an ideological Ardern hire and slippery creep.

Imposter Coster was intimately involved in his mate McSkimming’s appointment as Coster’s immediate lapdog. And Coster orchestrated McSkimming’s appointment knowing full well of McSkimming’s penchant for sexual predation. Later, Commissioner Coster instigated a nasty scheme by which one of McSkimming’s victims was arrested and criminally charged by the police under New Zealand’s Harmful Digital Communications Act – just to shut her up and punish her for her audacious insubordination in speaking up about McSkimming.

It’s now also apparent that Coster has deliberately deceived current Police Minister Mark Mitchell. Coster personally ensured that a plethora of emails evidencing McSkimming’s disgraceful conduct were withheld from Mitchell.

But can Public Service Commissioner Sir Brian Roche be trusted to fire Coster from his current sinecure as chief executive of the Social Investment Agency, without the customary golden handshake? We’ll find out shortly. As things stand, Roche has allowed Coster to go on indefinite, fully paid, gardening leave. Social Investment Minister Nicola Willis would do well to immediately express no confidence in Coster.

There’s yet more fishy stuff about McSkimming’s undoing. Labour’s she-wolf Fixit lawyer, Linda Clark, was whisked in to represent Jevon. Clark announced on Jevon’s behalf in January 2025 that McWrong’un looked forward to the investigation being concluded swiftly and resuming as deputy commissioner. But by that stage Jevon was donkey deep and the cat was out of the bag. McSkimming’s horse has bolted and his chickens have at last come home to roost.

Without DEI, Jevon would have forever remained a bog-standard bottom dweller.

Kiri Allan, ex-Minister of Justice

Former Labour Party MP Kiri Allan was minister of justice when, on the evening of Sunday 23 July 2023, she crashed – drunk – into a parked ute, writing off both vehicles. After trying but failing to resume her stalking car outing, she fled the scene. Apprehended by the police, Kiri claimed she was not the driver, failed a couple of breach alcohol tests, alleged the charges against her were a “political stunt” and she “wrote the law”, and then refused to accompany police to the station. All fine work for a minister of justice.

But earlier in 2023, following Jacinda Ardern’s resignation as prime minister, Allan had been touted as the successor prime minister. Woke media outlets joyously trumpeted that Kiri could become New Zealand’s first gay female Māori prime minister.

Allan is just another egregious, tragic example of the dreadful personal and public consequences that flow from DEI.

Siouxie Wiles, incorrigible attention seeker

Another DEIer who refuses to go away is Covid moonlighter, Ardern acolyte and Auckland University pseudo-academic, Siouxie Wiles. The Labour government chose Wiles as a ‘face’ of their authoritarian response to Covid because Wiles is woefully woke, complete with toxically pink hair.

Siouxie’s latest attention-seeking is her crowdfunding campaign on PledgeMe called “Support Dr Siouxsie After She Supported Us”. Her campaign is to try and recover, from the general public, the legal costs she incurred (reported about $600,000) in her absurd (albeit – unfathomably – partially successful) legal action against Auckland University. Siouxie claimed her employer had not adequately protected her from the flack she took for her Jacinda-fangirl support of Covidtearoa extremism.

Sarah Eyre, star of her very own Human Rights Star Chamber

The chair of the Human Rights Review Tribunal in New Zealand is Sarah Eyre. I’ve covered Sarah in a recent Substack:

A DIFFERENT KIND OF RIGHTSJohn McLean 29 Oct

Sarah Eyre was appointed as HRRT chair mainly for her claimed legal experience with refugees and in Treaty of Waitangi claims and Māori legal issues.

Eyre’s latest demonstration of her DEI deficiencies has come in the ongoing LAVA/Pride Parade HRRT hearing. Having earlier banned journalist Jenny Ruth from covering the hearing, Eyre has now also airily banned gender-critical Irish journalist Helen Joyce. Principles of open justice clearly do not come naturally to Chair Eyre.

Sarah Eyre is a DEI law unto herself, characteristically bereft of any idea of what she’s really supposed to be doing.

John Campbell

The last of my dire DEI five is John Campbell. It’s now almost a decade since “Marvelous” John exhausted all his avenues to remain gainfully employed in private sector media outlets.

Unemployable in the real world, John joined Radio New Zealand in 2016. He hosted RNZ’s Checkpoint until 2018 and then skipped seamlessly to government-owned Television New Zealand, where he’s paid at least half a million dollars a year. At TVNZ, Campbell initially co-hosted TVNZ’s inane Breakfast show before becoming TVNZ’s chief news correspondent, a role he has held since 2022.

As TVNZ’s chief news reporter, John Campbell is personally responsible for TVNZ’s woke-biased news coverage… pro-Māori separatism, pro-“Trans”, antisemitic, climate change catastrophizing, Trump (and Brian Tamaki) derangement syndromes, and so on. John describes guttersnipe ‘journalist’ David Farrier, who I have covered, as “my friend and colleague”. Good grief.

John Campbell is no longer a serious journalist (if he ever was), and none of the above DEI Five are serious (i.e., credible) people.

DEI is an integral part of the neo-Marxist Woke Cult that has badly damaged New Zealand, and remains a terrible threat to New Zealand’s future prosperity and welfare. The only way out of this mess is meritocracy.

New Zealand must put an end to patronizing, demeaning promotion of people based on their racial ancestry, sex, sexual orientation, body dysmorphia, skin colour, ideological orientations, disabilities etc.

Go Woke, Go Broke. Go DEI – DIE.
